Hello everyone,
This week, the children have been working on their recounts of their trip to Danelaw at Murton Park. In the lead up to their big write, we have been focusing on expanded noun phrases and fronted adverbials. All of their sentence work has revolved around activities on their trip to Murton Park. We have also been working on how to improve our writing and make it more exciting, whilst also making sure that it is punctuated correctly. They have been working extremely hard and they have produced some really lovely pieces of writing which include the key features required for a recount. They should be very proud of the work that they have produced!
In Maths, we have been focusing on negative numbers. This is a brand new concept for Year 4 and it can be tricky to grasp at first, but the children have really impressed me this week with their rapid build up of knowledge regarding negative numbers and their keen attitude to learn from their mistakes.
In PSHE, the theme of the lesson revolved around working cooperatively in a group. The children were given tangram puzzles and were tasked with creating as many different images as possible using the shapes. This task allowed the children to really show off the different skills required to work well together and successfully complete the task with every member of the group contributing in different ways.
The children also created their own name labels using Viking runes. Before beginning the writing, we identified what was unique about the runes e.g. they all have straight lines in them. The children then carefully drew the symbols required for their own name and coloured them in. We also wrote our own secret messages using the runes and as a class we had to work out what the message said.
That's all for now,
Mr Kyriacou :)
