Weekly Update 6.1.23

Hello everyone,
Happy New Year to you all! We have had a successful first week back in Willow Tree Class and the children have been eager to sink their teeth into our new topic of Volcanoes!
This topic is being weaved through our curriculum in science, guided reading, English and geography and we had a rather exciting trip into the centre of the Earth on Tuesday (virtual only!). In maths, we have recapped our learning on sharing and grouping and begun looking at multiplying a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number using base 10. The children did a fantastic job with this and it is clear to see that their manipulation of numbers is improving steadily.
I have been really impressed to see how much the children have been reading over Christmas and they have been so excited to share the books they read or received over the holidays!
On Wednesday, several children attended the Young Voices concert at Sheffield Utilita Arena. This was an amazing experience for all involved and the children were a credit to the school.
Our PE days are now Tuesday and Wednesday and children should remember to remove their earrings prior to these lessons or bring tape and plasters to cover these up.
Homework will be sent home tonight and is due back on Wednesday.
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Simms
