Weekly Update 22.4.22
Posted: Apr 22, 2022 by: K Simms (k.simms) on: Willow Tree Class Blog
Hello everyone,
We hope you enjoyed the Easter break… welcome back!
This week we kicked off our new topic on the Ancient Egyptians with an archaeological hunt around the school grounds! The children discovered replicas of eight artefacts – including a canopic jar, a bronze ankh and an ancient coin from the reign of Cleopatra VII. Our ‘history detectives’ carefully isolated the site of each find, before using the artefacts to make inferences about the lives and beliefs of the Ancient Egyptians. We also explored the differences between primary and secondary sources of history.
In July, we’ll be going on a trip to see a 3000-year old mummy named Nesyamun, as part of an Ancient Egyptian workshop at Leeds City Museum.
Elsewhere in the curriculum, we made predictions about our new class reader – There’s a Pharaoh in our Bath! by Jeremy Strong – and enjoyed reading the first chapter. Meanwhile in maths, we developed our knowledge of fractions and decimals.
There are several exciting extra-curricular activities for Years 3 and 4 beginning this week and next week – including Spanish Club, Choir, Eco Club, Chess Club, Cross-country and Football Club. We hope your children are enjoying these fantastic opportunities!
Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Simms
