Weekly Update 4.11.2022

Posted: Nov 2, 2022 by: K Atkinson (k.atkinson) on: Pear Tree Class Blog 2021- 2024

I hope you all had an enjoyable and peaceful half term. The children have all settled back into our school routines as if they had never been away and have enjoyed sharing what they got up to in the holidays with all of us at school.

In PE this week the children have enjoyed creating their own jungle dances with a partner. I was so impressed with how well the children communicated and shared their ideas to create some wonderful dance routines - it was like being transported to the jungle!

In English we have been learning about instructions and the children have been writing their own command sentences using bossy words. The children also followed a set of instructions to make their own Florence Nightingale lamp. Next week the children will be writing their own set of instructions for how to make a lamp, inspired by Florence Nightingale.

In history we have continued to learn about Florence Nightingale and about what Scutari Hospital was like before Florence arrived. The children were all very shocked to learn how dirty the hospital was!

The children earnt their class reward this week, for tidying up the classroom in less than two minutes on at least 20 different occasions. As their treat they chose to go on the trim trail near the Key Stage Two playground, which they all loved.

We are starting a reading challenge in Key Stage One to encourage reading at home. For the first three reads at home your child will receive one point and for each additional read above this they will get one point. If we get the most points in Key Stage One we will have Aslan the lion visit our reading area for a week. The children would love to win so please make sure you are reading as much as possible at home - ideally every day.

We have also sent home the first piece of homework today. Please make sure this homework is completed and back in school by Thursday 10th November.

From next week, our new PE days are Monday and Wednesday. On Wednesdays the children will be taught a street dance lesson by a specialist dance teacher which I am sure all the children will love.

Thank you for all your support and I hope you all have a lovely weekend,

Miss Atkinson
