Weekly Update 01.12.23

Posted: Dec 1, 2023 by: Miss Cotterill (e.cotterill) on: Lime Tree Class Blog 2022 - 2024

Hello!

December is here and we are all very exciting in Lime Tree :)

We have had a very busy week with lots of Christmas performance practice. All the children in Year 1 and Year 2 should now know what their part will be in the performance. Hopefully lots of you will be doing plenty of practise at home too.

In Art we had a go at recreating a Jackson Pollock style painting. Pollock liked to have large canvas on the floor where he would stand over them and splatter paint to create a 'drip painting'. The children loved this and we did get a little messy but the finished piece looks great!

In Science we have continued to focus on different materials and this week we have looked at properties of materials. The children went on a scavenger hunt around the classroom to try and find as many different properties as they could.

In Topic we looked in the life of Wassily Kandinsky. The children were fascinated to learn that he actually attended the same art school in Munich, Germany as Paul Klee (another artist we have looked at). This lesson will feed in to our next Art lesson which will be all about Kandinsky's concentric circles.

In English we have started our new focus text 'The Emperor of Absurdia' which is about a little boy's extraordinary dreams. The children have been writing character descriptions about the Wardrobe Monster.

Have a lovely weekend.
