Weekly Update 22.09.23

Posted: Sep 22, 2023 by: Miss Cotterill (e.cotterill) on: Lime Tree Class Blog

Hello!

Another busy week for us in Lime Tree Class.

Our first topic lesson of 'Emergency 999!' was to compare past London in 1666 with present London today. We particularly focused on the differences in buildings as this will help the children to understand why the Great Fire of London started and spread so quickly.

In Maths, Year 2 have continued with partitioning 2-digit numbers into tens and ones and writing the expanded form (52 = 50 + 2, 5 tens and 2 ones).  We have used a range of practical equipment to reinforce the value of these digits. Year 1 have been counting forwards and backwards within 10. The children have also been finding one more and one less than a given number by using a number line or a ten frame.

In English we have focused our descriptive writing on Katie from our focus text 'Katie in London'. Year 2 have extended their writing by including expanded noun phrases.

In Science we did a 'senses' experiment. I think the children definitely enjoyed testing their taste buds the most!

At the start of the week the children should all have brought home a note requesting cardboard boxes. These need to be brought in from Monday 2nd October ready for our Great Fire of London Workshop the following week. Thank you in advance!

It is time to elect our new School Council representative! If your child is interested in being Lime Tree's representative, they will need to make a poster about why they should be voted for and bring this to school by Wednesday next week.

Have a lovely weekend!
