Weekly Update 04.11.22

Posted: Nov 4, 2022 by: Miss Cotterill (e.cotterill) on: Lime Tree Class Blog 2022 - 2024

Hello!

Our first week back after half term has already come to an end and what a busy week it has been!

We have continued with our Florence Nightingale topic this week, looking at the changes in the Scutari hospital before and after her arrival. The children had a go at exploring their senses to imagine what Florence might have seen, smelt and heard when she first arrived at the hospital. Next Thursday Lime Tree Class will be having their Florence Nightingale Workshop where the children will learn more about her time in Scutari and the good work she did.

In English we have started looking at instruction writing. The children have been learning about the key features and imperative (bossy) verbs used to write command sentences. Yesterday the children followed oral instructions to make their very own Florence Nightingale lamp.

In Art we created some 'big build' nature sculptures inspired by Andy Goldsworthy and Heather Jansch. We started by collecting sticks, logs and leaves on our nature walk and worked in teams to create the sculptures.

Next week we will be launching our new Aslan Reading Challenge.  Aslan is the famous lion from the story The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe - he has also made appearances in lots of other stories under a different name. The Reading Challenge is to encourage more Home Reading and the winning class will get to have their very own Aslan for the week. There will be more information coming home next week.

Lime Tree Class were very excited at the thought of having Aslan in our classroom for the week, so let's get reading!

Have a lovely  weekend.

Miss Cotterill
