Nursery News

21/11/25

The children showed how kind and caring they are this week as they took on the role of doctors and nurses. We talked about our experiences of going to the GPs and hospitals and thought about people who work at night to help us.

The cold, icy weather prompted some artwork using 'cold' colours and sparkles. We did mark making patterns in a salt tray and more formal practise of writing our names.

In maths we counted out the correct number of conkers to match the number on a dice and used balance scales to explore heaviest, lightest and the same.

Next week; A visit from a police officer to tell us how they can help us.

14/11/25

We explored our feelings about the dark this week. The children talked about scary dreams, night lights and bedtime stories.

We discussed light and dark, night and day and the differences for us. We used torches in our dark den and talked about all the different lights we can use when it's dark. We found out which animals come out at night and made our own beautiful owls.

Next week; people who work at night.

7/11/25

Our focus this week has been on firefighters and how they help to keep us safe. We have put out fires at school, decorated engines and looked at the equipment that firefighters use.

We talked about how to keep safe on Bonfire Night and how we feel about noisy fireworks. We made beautiful sparkly firework pictures and used fireworks for counting practise.

Next week; night time animals

24/10/25

This week has been busy but a lovely way to end the long half term. We have practised cutting skills, created finger paint autumn trees, done some conker rolling and used props to sing an autumn counting game. The children enjoyed the disco and wearing their costumes and all joined in.

We will see you after the half term break when we will be thinking about light and dark and people who help us.

17/10/25

We have focused on the changing seasons and found out what happens in Autumn. We went on a walk to find Autumn treasure such as the biggest and smallest leaf. We used natural resources in craft activities and to create repeating patterns. We mixed autumn colours with paint and really enjoyed our fruit and vegetable shop.

The children did really well when having their photograph taken and we have seen some lovely involved games where the children have played as a large group.

Next week; more Autumn and s bit of Halloween.

We break up for half term next Friday 24th October

10/10/25

We have explored our five senses this week through a variety of activities.  We have all enjoyed listening walks, guessing what was in 'smelly pots' , identifying objects in the feely box just with our hands, talking about our eyes  and all the different equipment we can use and sharing our favourite and not so favourite tastes.

The children did a super job of helping to tidy our outside area before welcoming  visitors at our second school open day. They were very polite and a credit to us all.

Next week; Autumn changes.

3/10/25

We have enjoyed looking at baby photos this week and noticing what we can do that babies can't. We also sorted items into things that babies need such as cuddles and milk and things they don't like chocolate. The children are very proud of the things they can do now that they are bigger and enjoy their independence with everyday tasks.

Next week; our senses.

26/9/25

This week we thought about all the brilliant things our bodies can do and what we need to do to keep our bodies healthy. We talked about healthy eating, getting enough sleep, keeping clean and safe. The children talked about how we look after our teeth and their own experiences of brushing and visiting the dentist for check ups. We practised brushing by helping the toy dinosaurs to clean their teeth. We talked about good handwashing and how to deal with runny noses.  We sang lots of songs about our bodies.

Next week; growing and changing

19/925

The children have really enjoyed showing their family photos and talking about who lives in their house. We practised our drawing skills and pencil technique by drawing the members of our family. This prompted lots of lovely talking about home.

We have played out in the sun and rain this week but when the rain was too heavy we played in the hall. The newer children enjoyed their first visit and listened carefully to instructions about moving through school.

Next week; My body and keeping healthy.

12/9/25

Everyone is now in and are settling brilliantly. New friendships are developing and the children are enjoying getting to know each other and playing as a group.

This week we thought about the features of our faces and talked about how our faces show other people how we are feeling.  We used natural resources to create faces and used mirrors to try out different expressions. In phonics we explored different surfaces around school to make loud and quiet sounds and used instruments to practise loud and quiet. In maths we looked at groups of objects and said which group had more.

Next week; my family

5/9/25

We have had a super first week in Nursery, getting to know each other, learning new names and exploring new toys and equipment. The children came back smiley, happy and chatty, although by the end of Thursday there were some very tired faces.

Next week; myself, feelings and faces.
