As always, a busy week in Year 2 Cherry!

In our topic work this week we have continued to think about the past and present. We have been sorting pictures of buildings, people and transport deciding which belong to London in the past and the present.  We have been looking at how the buildings were different in 1666.  These differences will help the children to understand why the Fire of London started and spread so quickly.

In English we have been writing expanded noun phrases to describe Katie from our book 'Katie in London'. The children have used these noun phrases in their descriptions of Katie. Next week we will be writing descriptions of settings in the story.

The children have really impressed me this week with their 'Place Value' knowledge.  We have been partitioning 2 digit numbers into tens and ones and writing the expanded form ( 52 = 50 + 2    5 tens and 2 ones).  We have used a range of practical equipment to reinforce the value of these digits.

We have continued to look at different media on Art.  This week we have explored chalks.

In PE we have continued to work on our games skills with Sam.  The children have been using small balls and working on their throwing and catching skills. On Friday the children enjoyed their dance session inspired by the Lion King!

The children should all have brought home a note requesting cardboard boxes. These need to be brought in from Monday 2nd October ready for our Fire of London Workshop the following week.

The children have all been told today about School Council Elections.  If your child wants to stand for the class council representative they will need to make a poster about why they should be voted for and bring to school by Wednesday next week.

Enjoy your weekend.

Mrs Moore.
