Hello Cedar Class families,

This week, we have continued our Romans learning by exploring the lives of gladiators and using them as inspiration for our character descriptions. The children have worked hard to develop ambitious vocabulary and are preparing for their first published piece of writing of the year.

In Computing, we loved inventing our own devices. The children showed great creativity and took lots of care when designing and presenting their ideas.

The Year 4 children enjoyed another successful swimming session and are already growing in confidence in the water. As previously stated, the groupings of children are set by the leisure centre and are fluid so that they are continually assessed and moved according to their ability shown in the pool each week. We use the Leeds Swim Scheme to ensure that every child has the chance to succeed no matter what their starting points and also have the opportunity to be stretched and develop core swim safety skills where applicable.

In Maths, Year 3 have been ordering and comparing numbers to 1,000, while Year 4 have been ordering and comparing numbers to 10,000. This has helped to strengthen their understanding of place value and number magnitude.

In Reading, the children have been thoroughly enjoying our class novel, Thieves of Ostia, and are always eager to find out what happens next.

We have had another great week in Cedar Class!

I have been incredibly impressed with how well the children have represented our school this week. They showed excellent behaviour, resilience and confidence, especially when faced with OFSTED being in school. The children remained focused in their lessons, answered questions thoughtfully and demonstrated just how much they are learning every day. Well done, Cedar Class!

A reminder that Year 4 swimming begins next week. Swimming letters were sent home yesterday, both electronically and in paper form. If you require another copy, please contact the school office as soon as possible so that all necessary information can be shared with the leisure centre before our first session on Wednesday.

In English, we have been revisiting and strengthening key skills from previous year groups to ensure everyone feels confident and ready for the exciting writing challenges ahead. Next week, we will begin developing our descriptive writing skills in more depth.

In Maths, we have continued our work on place value, focusing on recognising, representing and partitioning 3 and 4-digit numbers. The children have been working hard to explain their reasoning and deepen their understanding.

In Science, we have been learning how to identify, group and classify animals. The children have enjoyed sharing their knowledge and asking thoughtful questions during our lessons. In Art, the children have really enjoyed drawing 'broken buildings', and have added lots of finer details to their work. 

We have also begun placing a greater emphasis on the quick recall of times tables. Regular practice of multiplication facts is an important part of our learning, and the children have made a positive start to improving their fluency and confidence.
